Double Shot - New Farm
Double Shot was recommended to us by our favorite
blog girl Espresso&Matcha. Quality ingredients, generous portion size and
Merlo coffee have captured her heart for several years. To find out what it’s
all about, the Tomcat family visited for weekend brunch.
The trendy and well decorated
establishment houses a large alfresco area with seating stretching to the shop
next door. It was a busy weekend and we luck to secure one of their last table.
After a quick review of their simple menu, we ordered: coffees, breakfast
board, croque madame and a chocolate brownie to treat Baby Tomcat.
Coffees: cappuccino and flat white both
served hot with well pulled latte art. Merlo blended beans were utilized and
presents nutty, chocolate flavours with a mildly bitter bite. A great way to
start the day. 3.5/5
Breakfast board: poached eggs, half avocado,
smoked salmon, tomato rocket salad, fetta, oiled sour dough slices and parsley
oil all served on a wooden board. The DIY focused board was vibrant in colour
with each ingredient fresh and appealing. Poached eggs were perfectly cooked
with a golden runny centre. Salmon, lightly smoked with a rich creamy mouthfeel.
Paired with crispy sourdough and perfectly made parsley oil, you have good
spread of ingredients fun for young and old. If only the fetta was less salty.
4/5
Croque madame: contains ham & cheese in
toasted sourdough topped with caramelised onion marmalade,
poached eggs, roasted tomato and rockets. First bite exposes the sweet
caramelised onion with lightly salted ham and fragrant melted cheese. The big
flavour hit was intense but each ingredient complemented each other to near
perfection. Fresh rockets and roasted tomato did its job to cut through the
oiliness and balance out the flavour. Eggs were again perfectly poached with a beautiful
runny centre. What a beauty this is! 4.5/5
Chocolate brownie: dusted with sugar and
a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The brownie was rich with big chocolate flavours
and overpowering minty taste. Baby Tomcat took a bite and ended up tackling the
ice cream instead. To us, it’s a very average 3/5.
Service: friendly, attentive service with
a smile. Kids cutleries was provided without hassle. 4/5
Hint: their breakfast board and Croque
madame comes highly recommended. Lunch sandwich selections from the other
tables seems decent.
