Fonzie Abbott Albion

Fonzie Abbott is now a big name in the Brisbane boutique coffee scene. A recent visit of their domestic airport café has prompted me to check out the roasting house/factory at Albion.

Fonzie Abbott’s open to public café is hidden away in Fox St light industrial area. Walking into the establishment, you will be greeted with fragrant coffee scent and bare “black themed” industrial design. Simple drinks menu were available on the blackboard with a few pastries displayed beside the front counter. I was with two lovely young ladies for a weekday afternoon and decided to order: 2x caramel latte, single origin long black and an almond croissant to share.

Caramel latte: well presented with a skilfully made latte art. House blend “Highside” beans were utilized with a touch of Fonzie Abbtt’s own caramel syrup. Taste presents medium-bodied mouthfeel with big caramel, butterscotch flavours and hints of dark fruits & chocolate. Simply the best caramel latte according to Mrs Tomcat. 4.5/5

Long black: with Ethiopian single origin beans. A full-bodied coffee exceptionally fruity with hints of spice and mild lingering acidity. Being a coffee lover this one hits the spot just fine. 4/5

Almond croissant: presented toasted with a beautiful golden crust and almond flakes. Cutting into the croissant reveals fine layers of pastry with a sweet, runny almond mill filling. Taste wise was only mildly sweet with big almond and buttery scent. Tomcat’s mum liked it soo much she bought out the remaining three as takeaway. 4/5

Overall Rating: 4.0/5

Hint: great coffees and pastries! Hard to resist their take home coffees…
