Bellissimo Coffee Bulimba

Bellissimo is a name frequently mentioned in my “coffee addict” group. Their multi award-winning beans and extended selection of single origins prompted me to visit the roasting house at Bulimba. The decent sized establishment houses a small indoor and alfresco area. Beside the brew bar is where all action happens: sorting, roasting, cooling and packing coffee beans.

A view of their menu revealed simple light food, sweet treats, four house blends and one single origin. After seeking recommendations from the barista, we ordered: flat white, caramel latte and an almond croissant.

Flat white: house blend mocha java was utilized with a well presented flower latte art. The medium roasted brew was strong with bold flavours and hints of fruitiness. Lingering sharp bitterness was a surprise. 3.5/5

Caramel latte: house blend Italian dark roast with caramel syrup and a love heart latte art. The coffee was smooth with hints of chocolate and strong caramel flavours. Mrs Tomcat enjoyed the brew but the lack of character and generic tasting caramel syrup made this an average offering. 3.5/5

Almond croissant: toasted with a good amount of almond flakes. The croissant showed strong almond and buttery flavours with a well layered flaky texture. A shame it was over heated and lacked almond meal filling inside. 3/5

Service: friendly and attentive staff willing to share their knowledge on brewing and tasting. Service with a smile, you can’t go wrong with that. 4.5/5

Hint: big selection of takeaway beans on offer beside the counter. Do ask one of the friendly staff for freshly roasted beans and recommended single origins for specific brewing methods.

Overall Ranking: 3.5/5
