Grandma's Kiwi Kitchen
Grandmas Kiwi Kitchen
was recommended by my Kiwi cuzzie who made the bold claim: "best brekkie
place in Logan". With myself questioning the bias nature of that
statement, we made our way there for weekday lunch.
The modern and tastefully decorated establishment houses a two level dining and a small alfresco area. Decent selection of sweet treats, pre-made wraps, salads, and sandwiches was presented in the display fridge. Near the counter, you will spot a five page food menu with some items repeated on a large blackboard. After a long discussion with the Mrs, we ended up ordering: fish & chups, chicken & bacon club sandwich, L&P and single cup of flat white.
Fish & chups: come with a large battered piece of cod, thick cut chips with a touch of salad on the side. First impression: generous serving size. A bite into the fried fish reveals juicy and flaky cod meat with a fragrant buttery batter. The chips were crunchy with a mushy centre. Mixed green salad, did its magic to balance the oiliness. Paired with L&P, I was left with a satisfying smile after each bite. It’s been a long time since I had fish n chips this good. Choice bro! 4.5/5
Chicken & bacon club sandwich: contains pan seared chicken breast, bacon, mixed greens, tomato, onion, cheddar and house made white sauce all held together by toasted Turkish bread with a side of chips. The chicken itself was overcooked and on the dry and tough side. Bacon on the other hand was perfectly seared with big smoky, porky taste and mildly salty. Paired with the soft Turkish bread and the tangy house made sauce, you have a good tasting sandwich to tame the lunchtime hunger. 3/5
Flat white: served as in a large cup with a cute heart shaped latte art. Beans utilized here is from Di Manfredi. Served as milk based, showed full bodied mouthfeel with chocolate and hint of fruity flavours. Not to Mrs Tomcat’s liking but for a caffeine junkie like myself it was spot on. Beaut! 4/5
Service: for a busy weekday lunch was quick and attentive. 4/5
Overall Rating: 4.0/5
Hint: strongly recommend their big brekkie & fish n chups. Amazing Kiwi artworks on display can be purchased.
